Professional Background of Eric Scruggs

 

Eric is a Lead Financial Advisor at Covenant Wealth Advisors, serving clients virtually across the United States. With more than a decade of experience as a financial planner, he works with individuals and families on every facet of their financial lives — from retirement income planning and investment management to the tax planning strategies that help clients keep more of what they've earned.
 

Before joining Covenant, Eric founded Hark Financial Planning and previously served as a senior advisor and financial planner at firms in Boston, MA and Reston, VA. Along the way, he served on an investment committee, founded and managed a tax practice, and advised a Fintech start-up — but the work he values most has always been helping clients achieve their goals. Eric joined Covenant Wealth Advisors because of his longstanding relationships with our team and the opportunity to focus fully on what he loves: advising clients, solving problems, and collaborating with a team dedicated to helping clients live their best life to and through retirement.
 

Eric believes there is more to helping clients than technical knowledge alone. Technical expertise is the foundation, but the real work begins with listening — understanding what a client truly wants to accomplish and tailoring the plan to their specific goals. That's why he spends much of his time asking questions and exploring what matters most to each client before applying the technical skills behind the plan.
 

Eric is also committed to giving back. He focuses his pro bono work on helping families impacted by a cancer diagnosis. He also serves as an instructor at the Boston Institute Of Finance, where he teaches tax planning.

Personal and Family

Eric grew up near Houston, Texas and after almost a decade living in Virginia, currently lives north of Boston, Massachusetts with his wife, Alyssa, their two children, and their dog, Wizard.
 

Outside of work, Eric enjoys watching baseball (Go Astros), learning more about wine, and is currently training to run a marathon.
